West Springfield notes: Mayor hosts open meeting, high school entrance rerouted

Mayor resumes open meetings for residents
?
WEST SPRINGFIELD ? Mayor Gregory C. Neffinger resumed his open door meetings Thursday after a hiatus of two weeks, according to the mayor.

He is inviting West Side residents to stop by his office Thursdays from noon to 3 p.m. No appointments are necessary, according to a statement issued by his office.

High school entrance rerouted?

WEST SPRINGFIELD ? The north entrance to West Springfield High School from Piper Road has been temporarily closed for the summer months as well as the north entrance to the staff parking lot.

All traffic into the high school must temporarily enter via the south entrance (formerly the exit route). The staff parking lot is accessible only via the south entrance. Normal traffic patterns will be restored by the start of the school year Sept. 3.

The reason for the temporary traffic pattern is to allow for the construction of a bus driveway and turn around that will be used when the new high school opens in February 2014. Additional changes to the traffic and parking patterns will occur during the demolition of the old building in 2014.
