Eddie Jordan claims Raikkonen would be wrong to switch teams ? Formula 1 news
Eddie Jordan has claimed that it would be a wrong choice for Kimi Raikkonen to make a move to Red Bull for the 2014 Formula 1 season.
According to the former team owner, ?At first I was pretty sure that Raikkonen will replace Mark Webber. But now I?m ready to change my mind. Sebastian Vettel is staying until 2015 and so it?s probably not the best time to become his teammate. I don?t think Raikkonen wants to get into an extensive programme at Red Bull, with all the marketing, the work with the sponsors, the photo shoots and so on.?
He added, ?That?s the sort of work that every driver for that team has to do. Red Bull has a marketing programme, but Kimi Raikkonen just wants to race. I doubt they will find common ground.?
The rumours regarding Raikkonen?s move to the reigning champion team surfaced, after Webber had an issue with his team-mate during the Malaysian GP. The Australian was winning it comfortably, but the team ordered him to slow down in order to save the tyres. He was assured that Vettel, who was second at that point, would also follow the same strategy.
However, the youngest triple world champion did not want to settle down for anything less than a win, so he decided to overtake Webber, going against the team orders.
Following the incident, it was rumoured that Webber would quit racing sometime soon and will be replaced by another driver like Raikkonen.
At first, nothing seemed to be certain, but once the Aussie retired, Red Bull openly showed their interest in the 2007 world champion.
On the other hand, Raikkonen also said that he would consider making a move to another team by the end of this season. However, he insisted that the switch was not certain, as he was enjoying a lot of independence at Lotus.
The Finn has been scoring some good results with his current team and would like to win a championship with them. If he manages to do that, he will definitely not look at moving somewhere else, especially at Red Bull, where the team has openly favoured Vettel over other drivers.
