2013 Ford Fusion Goes Cliff-Jumping in New Commercial

?Cars cannot fly,? Ford helpfully tells us in small print in a new Fusion ad. That may be obvious, but we have to admit, the 2013 Ford Fusion shown in a new 30-second video looks great as it soars through the air after being driven off a cliff.

Before he can answer his own question, the Fusion turns off the road and leaps off a cliff. Thanks to the magic of CGI, the 2013 Ford Fusion Titanium actually made its big jump on a closed course, landing on a huge pile of cardboard boxes.

Should you ever find yourself airborne in a 2013 Ford Fusion, it?ll probably be a quiet trip: at 2013 Car of the Year testing, many COTY judges noted how well the new car suppresses road and wind noise. And although few consumers will ever consider the car?s 2.5-liter I-4 base engine, we were big fans of the steering feel from the Fusion with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost I-4 mated to a six-speed manual. The Fusion also offers a 2.0-liter EcoBoost I-4 (with available all-wheel drive), as well as hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants.

When the 2013 Ford Fusion in the ad eventually does hit the ground, we wonder if its IIHS Top Safety Pick status will be any help. Regardless, it?s another interesting way of getting attention in the ultra-competitive midsize segment. Will the new Fusion soar over others in the segment or crash out of the running? We?ll be watching the monthly sales numbers to find out ? until then, watch the ad ? as well as a behind-the-scenes making-of video ? below.
