Conference: Universities Art Association of Canada

The Department of Art History, led by associate professor Anne Whitelaw, is hosting the Universities Art Association of Canada's annual conference from Nov. 1 to 3, 2012.

Several hundred participants are expected at this premier gathering of scholars and artists. The conference kicks off in the FOFA Gallery on Nov. 1 at the vernissage of Contested site: Archives and the City, curated by associate professor Christopher Moore (Design and Computation Arts) and gallery director jake moore. The exhibition runs from Oct. 22 to Nov. 16.

About Contested site: Archives and the City
Through photography, video, printmaking, drawing, storytelling, performance and dog parks, Contested site: Archives and the City will make clear how artists perform as researchers as well as producers of cultural content. The exhibition highlights the emerging phenomenon of research/creation, which is redefining institutions, pedagogy, funding agencies and artistic practice in a reflexive manner, as perhaps a contested site itself. Contested site: Archives and the City also showcases the diverse outcomes produced by Concordia's fine arts community.

Participating artists: Thomas Kneubuhler, Shauna Janssen, Douglas Moffat, Fran?ois Morelli, Taien Ng-Chan, Celia Perrin Sidarous, Emmelyne Pornillos/Candice Tarnowski, Matt Soar, ?tienne Tremblay-Tardif, RECTO/VERSO Collective: Tina Carlisi/Joshua Fourney/Katerina Lagass?, ?cole de la Montagne Rouge, Steven Woloshen, and more
