The Weirdest Bacon Recipes - Food & Drink Articles - Savista Over ...

It may have slipped your mind, don?t worry I?m here to remind you, that it was International Bacon Day on 1st September. In honour of this most important occasion, I ask each and every one of you to consume an unheard of amount of bacon all day. Bacon sandwiches, fried breakfasts, pasta dishes, salads and pastries. But, for the more adventurous of you bacon-loving folk, who might enjoy something a little zanier, here are five recipes I?ve located for truly outlandish bacon dishes. Let the common herd have their butties! Why not try one of these porky oddities?!

Bacon Jam

?Bacon jam is no joke!? says Canadian bacon enthusiast Andrew Back Bacon of the website republicofbacon.com. And yes, it seems his name is no joke either. At first I thought this would be repulsive, but I?ve really warmed to the idea of bacon jam. As Martha Stewart writes, ?spread this savoury bacon jam on bread for a holiday appetizer and send your guests home with a jar.? It?s not a sweet jam, but more alike to a marmite or chutney, and bursting with flavour. The process is simple but with one long cooking period in the middle. Here?s the recipe to make it!

Bacon Granola

Reading the description for this one made me laugh out loud! Granola, or oatmeal, is supposed to be a lightweight, energy rich, fibrous snack to which the republic of bacon advise adding some protein based caramelised bacon! It may sound disgusting, but you can?t knock it until you?ve tried it, and you don?t have to have it with milk. I certainly wouldn?t! This is a simply fantastic granola recipe anyway, so it?s definitely worth taking a look.

Bacon and egg ice-cream

This is a special recipe I remember hearing about when Heston Blumenthal first emerged on our TV screens. He?s since disappeared ? probably best ? but not without leaving a stomach-turning legacy of horrid combinations and dodgy recipes. This is definitely one of them! Heston says: ?this is one of my signature dishes at The Fat Duck... I serve this dish with marmalade because its bitterness and acidity cut through the richness of the ice cream.? This recipe needs two days preparation and a little culinary finesse. Oh, and you?ll need a lot of eggs! Warning: dry ice can burn.

Baconised Tiramisu

This recipe comes from chef Rob Bacon, another baconite republican from earlier, who got it from his ?nonna?, whatever that is. I can wholeheartedly say the idea of this makes me sick. But again, it?s worth a look. It?s a great recipe, very simple and interesting, and I imagine the caramelised bacon would give a subtle hint of flavour to this well-known coffee dessert that would have me sampling it for sure. I don?t care that Rob Nonna would smack [him] for putting bacon in it.

A Date with a Pig

This one I put on because of the name and the combination of flavours. It is what is says on the tin. There are only two ingredients in these aperitifs, they are very simple and take only forty-five minutes to produce.

The creator of this recipe says: ?anyone who has tried these just loves them! My plate always comes home empty.?
